"By the end of the quest I had grown in both strength and tone"

10x story for June 20th

When your husband says "WOW" and a poignant irony.....

If you are looking for a program that can give you a whole new lease of life as well as strengthen and tone your body then....... 10x is for you!!!

It is now 11 weeks since I finished the first 10x 12-week quest and I am still going strong. Literally. That's 23 weeks of strength training when I have never done ANY before. That's a testament to how brilliant the quest was and also how it really did prepare me to keep going once it had finished. I started the 10x quest during lockdown in the UK and I was separated from my husband for nine months. Now he is a very nice husband - yet I was still blown away by his "wow" when he saw my post 10x quest body for the first time. Both of us knew I did not have much muscle tone or strength due to years of illness so we are both delighted by what has been possible in what was just 3 months at that time.

By the end of the quest I had grown in both strength and tone. My husband had grown used to doing many things for me and now he has to get used to me being able to do them for myself. The first time he heard me run upstairs he celebrated with a loud shout of joy!!

Before I started I couldn't even do one knee push-up - never mind a full one and press ups with only 1kg dumbbells. After years of illness, I was amazed what was possible - by the end of the quest I was able to do 12 knee push ups and press ups just about using 5KG dumbbells.

What I really valued then, and even more so now, is the loving, fun, structured way we were guided both during the quest and for afterwards to continue. The amount of resources we have to keep for life is amazing.

My journey is one of persistence as well a new lease of life. I am still recovering from ME/CFS (chronic fatigue) and 10x led the way to me becoming more active than I have been for about 15 years. And not only that but to sustain it.
After about a month of 10x I was able to start yoga, something I have never been able to do before. I have now completed 100 days of yoga and in the last month I have even started swimming each morning in the sea.....and I am talking the Irish sea not the Bahamas!!!! None of this had been possible for me before 10x and now I love yoga, 10x and sea swimming and I can't imagine life without all three of them.

During these 11 weeks post-quest my journey has not been "perfect". But this has shown me the value of 10x even more. I did need to reduce the number of times I did 10x each week from 4 to 2 so that I could include yoga and swimming and still continue to recover. I also experienced a curve ball in that my mom died unexpectedly and this shook me emotionally as well as physically. For a period of about four weeks I didn't eat as healthily as I usually did and even had a few weeks where I only practiced 10x once per week. I did manage to keep going with the daily yoga. I gained a little weight during this time but as I moved through this I got back in to the routine of 10x twice a week with the yoga and swimming and am really enjoying being back in the full routine. I am now doing knee push ups with bands and my press ups are with 6Kg dumbbells, and the thrust and row are now with 8kg dumbbells. So I have continued to make great progress and keep going even through a very rough patch. That's also a testament to 10x. And the poignant irony? We had a lovely funeral for my mom and I was able to be one of the six that carried and lowered her coffin into her beautiful grave under a silver birch tree. Now I am not sure that would be a goal for anyone - it certainly wasn't one for me at the start - however, having the strength to be able to take part in that last ritual for her is a gift I will be forever grateful for. There is no way I could have done that before 10x.

Another great thing about 10x is the variety of choices for each exercise. This keeps it fresh and fun. I did start doing squats with a wall ball and now I am enjoying lunges instead. I have practiced all the techniques at home which was a godsend during lockdown and will try the gym versions sometime in the future. I recall Ronan and Lorenzo's wise counsel to keep going and review after a year. So far, I am nearly half way through that. I can't quite believe what I have achieved in this first six months and can't wait to see what happens during the next six. There are times when I wonder what to do and the community is so great and supportive.

The thought of having coaching with Ronan and Lorenzo - well that's like winning the lottery!

Once again - so much love and thanks to Ronan, Monique and Lorenzo.
