Before this quest, I had set myself a goal at the start of 2023 to read 10 pages a day. That is 3650 pages for the year and I even listed out the books I was going to read so that I could complete 12 business/growth books during 2023. I started out great sticking to my plan, of doing the reading during my lunch hour while taking notes. As the year progressed, I ended more and more just writing sections out of the book onto paper. I found that it even got harder to complete 10 pages while taking notes in 1 hour, especially as I got from books like the Wealthy Barber by Chilton to more complex books like Lifeforce by Tony Robbins. This book is 663 pages and should have take 66-67 days. I first opened the book on August 16th 2023 and as of this story (5/29/24) I am on page 569. 288 days or 41 weeks and I am not even finished yet. I only read 3 other books prior to Lifeforce so was even extremely slow moving on them.
I only joined Mindvalley back on 5/10/24, so this is just ending my 3rd week. I enrolled in this quest as my first quest to help the people who work for us and with us grow. My company is data entry, data validation. Not a very sexy topic or work and it becomes very rote very quickly. This has caused us to burn through many employees and contractors. I joined Mindvalley to improve myself so we can find a better way to connect to our people and help them get what they are looking for in life, which I know is not to be faster typists or data entry specialist, and in doing so they will help elevate our company to heights and projects that could even take us away from data entry to a place where we can truly serve and assist other business in a more direct fashion.
So I set a goal for myself to read 65 books from June 1st 2024 to May 31st 2025. I will finish the LIfeforce book in the next few days prior to the 1st of June, then start my 65 with Grinding it Out by Ray Kroc (Founder of McDonalds). By super reading those 65 books I will be making progress in my own personal growth journey and by doing so will be better able and suited to serve our people and to help them grow and take our company to new levels currently not imagined or even help/elevate them to new levels of growth in their own lives that may no longer include our company.
I recommend this quest with all my heart and soul. I have improved my baseline in just 19 days from 220 to 420, while not doubling or tripling my baseline, I have shown myself that I can improve my speed and comprehension. And of course the first question I am asking myself now is how can I get to north of 650 WPM so I can triple my speed. The next question is what impact can I have on the world around me and even the greater world if I can read 65 books in next 12 months and then 80 books in the 12 months after that. What can I contribute with the growth and knowledge of 145 books in my mind, and ideas, action items from them in my daily life in the next 24 months.
My top insights from this quest is to set the stage, have a plan and a map. I would have never dreamed of waking up and getting dressed and walk out my front door and run a marathon.....without training, stretching, building up to 26 miles. It would destroy my body and possibly even cause permanent injury. But yet I open a business or growth book and turn to page 1 without even looking at the TOC, or browsing/skimming the chapters to see the images they use the sub headings they posses and create myself a list of questions for what I am about to read. I open that book without stretching out my mind or my eyes. My environment is low light and not conducive to super fast reading. Which is like running that marathon in flip flops.....
So here I go, stretching my mind, my eyes and through this even my body. I've actually learned how to juggle 2 balls in the air 10 times without dropping them.
Have a great day.
