Before the program, I have always been a marketing leader with strategic vision who heavily leaned on my influencing skills to move things forward. I believe I was also an empathetic manager who took pride in establishing transparent communication and positive relationships with my team, peers and managers. There were several informal “coaching“ opportunities with my team, but it was only scratching the surface.
Since being part of this certified business coach program, I have come to learn and appreciate the fundamental mindset shifts and tools for coaching at a much higher level of competency to create measurable value and sustainable impact. Tools / methods like first-principle thinking and powerful questions have helped reframe my mindset on the power of coaching. When combined with technical knowledge of your field, a person equipped with coaching fundamentals can be a become a potent force of positive change in people‘s lives.
If there is one thing I now constantly reinforce / remind myself and with others I connect with, it‘s “Consult the Problem, Coach the Person“. Or Coach the Team. You can have a brilliant strategy and sets of solutions to solve a problem for a business, but it will not reach its potential if the leader & team involved are not well set up for success. As a practitioner of Design Thinking and Human-Centred Design, I feel so much more well equipped after taking the Certified Business Coach program. After all, coaching is like Human-Centred approach to driving true transformation.
