So, what is it…well it’s a programme that I took though Mindvalley (another fantastic platform/site), in which you work through your life as 12 categories, looking at:
- What you current beliefs are (be they positive or negative), and which you might want to let go of to replace with new, more positive beliefs
- What your vision for the future is
- Your reasons for achieving that vision is
- What your strategy is to get there
And you work through this with guidance from a pretty inspirational couple – Jon and Missy Butcher) and the support of an online tribe.
And why did I do it? Well at the start of this year I needed a boost. I’d been feeling a bit stuck and in some kind of life crisis for a while, having struggled with very low mood and stress last year so I was looking for some inspiration and came across Jon & Missy’s Masterclass on Mindvalley and was intrigued.
I‘ve gone in circles with health and fitness for a while, was bored with my job, but very unsure about what to do next, having a lot of emotional turmoil, knew my relationship could be improved, and that I always worried about finance.
I pondered for a while as I was sure that such a course being free, couldn’t be true, but it was. You pay an amount up front and as long as you complete the course you can claim it back. The catch is that you can continue to a follow on course if you forgo the refund, but you don’t have to at all.
In doing the programme I suddenly had to ask myself – ‘what have I been doing with my life’. That sounds rather like a mid-life crisis I admit, and it’s not like I’ve done nothing or achieved nothing, but I did realise that I’ve spent a lot of my life so far, just going through the motions and filling my time with stuff and trying hard to do well at everything, as opposed to really thinking about the future and aiming for a dream life. I was definitely living to work, rather than working to live for starters.
Working through the categories, listening to Jon’s presentations and being part of the calls was really enjoyable and enlightening. This was how I started as notes, which I then honed down to more defined chapters. It isn’t super fancy and it’s definitely a work in progress, but it’s a really positive start in my opinion. In fact, I have a pretty free week coming up and plan to use that to go over it and set out some more details strategies to achieve it.
As it’s in progress, I don’t have any major achievements to report yet, but when I think carefully, there is definitely movement taking place.
My mindset is far more positive and ambitious for starters, even if I’m not 100% convinced I will get my dream house and lifestyle, I can see its more feasible if I at least define it.
More specific/measurable results include, that:
To support my Health & Fitness vision I took up offers for The Longevity Blueprint and Wildfit, both of which have really shaken up my approach to exercise and diet. I’m not sure if it actually has anything to do with ‘the power of intention’, but I set myself a LB goal of reaching a certain bodyfat by May and despite not much change during WF, I was very pleasantly surprised to see I did achieve it by the end of the programme, and that was without counting calories or weights, and doing less exercise than usual!
I left my job mid-April, which had been in the pipeline for a few years, but I was always a bit too scared to take the plunge. Doing LB definitively helped me to take that final step. And whilst I’m still working on a career plan for the future, I’m already much happier and more positive about doing something more fulfilling with my life.
Martyn and I are working on our love life and whilst I did this without him, I hope he’ll be up for going through it with me one day so we can make sure we’re hoping for the same things in the future. TBH it would be amazing if I could win the prize and take him with me to Hawaii – I hope this is how it works!!
Our finances also seem to be getting more steady as well, I can’t guarantee that’s because of LB or just a coincidence, but either way it’s a positive.
So, yeah, that’s kind of it in a reasonably succinct way and I would certainly recommend anyone who would like to get a bit more of a handle on their life trajectory. If nothing else, it’s great to dream a little. Plus with the accountability deposit and refund set up, what have you really got to lose.
