“I considered myself a ‘Conscious parent’ – then I discovered that I had a long way to go and that Dr. Shefali was here to teach and guide me”
I am hugely inspired by the work of Shefali , whom I consider a superhero in today’s world! And by Vishen, another superhero whose vision amazes me and I have dreamt about being a vehicle for spreading consciousness in the world long before I discovered his work!
They have both transformed my life through their work and vision in the world and the fact that they are both Indian, bringing the wisdom of the East to the West and creating a masterful blend.
I too grew up in India but have lived in the West ( London, Montreal, San Francisco now) for most of my life. A little bit about me – I am a 51 year old stay-at-home mom of 3 children – ages 26, 14,12.
We have quite an interesting family story – my mom divorced my dad in India 50 years, quite a trailblazer in her own right, married an American 32 years ago, I am now married for a second time to my husband John, the father of my 2 younger children. We both have had our share of traumatic, yet relatively happy and loving childhoods being raised by a village, him in California, me in India, him losing his mom to suicide at age 5 and me never having known my biological father. We had quite a successful blended family situation till a few years ago when my oldest son , who’s now 26, had immense problems manifest in his life and my 2 younger children were still in elementary school – this was about the time that I discovered Shefali’s work when she appeared on SuperSoul Sunday.
Till this time I considered myself a ‘conscious parent’ – then I discovered that I had a long way to go and that Shefali was here to teach and guide me. Her work has not only changed my life, but it has also lent itself to a much healthier relationship with my children, my husband and our children are thriving as a result of it.
My husband and I are heavily immersed in the personal growth and transformational world and he in fact travels the world teaching compassionate communication.
We are also trying to live an ‘out of the box’ existence [...] we are both ‘consciously parenting ‘ our children through love, kindness and empathy, letting go of our egos in the parenting process and seeing that it works like magic to create a happy, healthy – physically & emotionally – children and for that I am immensely grateful.
[...] I also believe that the more people who learn the skills of conscious parenting, the more equipped we will be to deal with the challenges, the violence, the health problems our world currently faces.
