As a photographer and with the arrival of motherhood, the need arose in me to want to record every moment of the world of my twin daughters. However, this connection was interfered with when noticing that one of them was beginning to show signs of something that, to this day, does not have a definite diagnosis and that causes a visible difference in its development.
I ventured into the medical world in search of answers and paid little attention to the individual and emotional needs of my daughters and myself. The little acceptance of the evolutionary cycle in them generated a constant state of anxiety in our family.
I decided to give my photographic style a complete turn and headed towards documentary photography, directing my focus on recording everyday moments within family experiences. What I seek is to be able to capture those moments that reveal authenticity and the magic that hides behind the routine, moments that are not predictable, that often go unnoticed, but that are full of messages. In 2019 I decided to do a master's degree in documentary photography and this experience gave rise to my life project Desigual (Unequal).
Desigual is a photographic project that arises from facing a vital situation that is revealed through the daily life of my twin daughters. The strong union between them is interrupted by the visible difference in their development –both physical and cognitive– and by the need to want to heal what was never sick.
The visual narrative of this project is based on metaphorical elements that relate the mysterious and delicate nature of the link between them and proposes, at the same time, a reconciliation between two truths that apparently cannot coexist: they are the same; They are different.
Through play and coexistence free of prejudice, I begin to portray the communication links between Kaira and Zoe. Each one experiences their world in a different way; each one walks her own path: a path that always transcends the desire to want to be together.
Desigual invites us to reflect on human relationships that are based on a concept of integration and emphasizes the ways in which we look at each other and how those same looks –many times– determine the way we build ourselves as individuals. Likewise, this project seeks to break with prejudices, to value diversity”.
For me, the Life Coach course has been very important since it has given me the tools I need to apply in my own life experience and at the same time be able to accompany and guide people through their own processes.
