"Within the first month of classes, my depression was gone"
According to the medical community, I suffer from a genetic disease called hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. By the time I started the Hypnotherapy program last year, I was in chronic pain, on crutches, and living in a perpetual state of mild depression. I had stopped working as an interior designer 4 years before because I just couldn’t, physically and emotionally, “deal with it all” anymore. Based on conversations with my doctors and other people diagnosed with hEDS, I expected to be in a wheelchair within the next 10 years, at which point I was planning to go to Switzerland for assisted suicide. My husband and kids (24 & 26) were aware of my plans. I was writing down my bucket list. I was already a Mindvalley member when I saw the ad for the Hypnotherapy program (I needed help falling and staying asleep). I figured self-hypnosis could maybe help me regulate my pain. I could not remember my body in the absence of pain anymore. Within the first month of classes, my depression was gone: purpose, agency, learning something new and exciting, an amazingly supportive group of like-minded people I quickly connected with, brought me hope again. Once I learned how to negotiate pain with my subconscious, I didn’t need my crutches anymore. Steve mentioned “The Biology of Belief”, and I started reading it. It made sense. Today I uploaded all the end-of-program requirements for my Hypnotherapy Certification. I am bedridden again, because I was feeling “too good”, and pushed my body way beyond its limits while on vacation in Costa Rica. My Hypno-family is helping me heal a broken bone. Emotionally, I’m happy about my future and intellectually, excited about my new career as a Hypnotherapist. It is not hyperbole to say that taking this one step with Mindvalley gave me my life back.
